What is CBD?

January 22, 2020

The recent popularity of CBD has thrust this molecule onto the global stage. With the resulting surge in public interest, countless products have popped up promising a wide range of results. How do you separate fact from fiction? How do you know what you’re purchasing is safe and most effective for you? If you’re curious, read on for a quick rundown on CBD.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD), is a phytocannabinoid that comes from cannabis plants (marijuana and hemp) and has been shown to supplement the body’s own endocannabinoid system and help bring things back into balance.

What does it do?

There’s a lot of talk about CBD, and much of what is reported is unsubstantiated. While the science continues to evolve, studies do suggest that CBD may interact with receptors that help modulate things like pain, inflammation, and stress. Viridian Pharmaceuticals, the company that developed Notion, is taking steps to advance the science and better understand the efficacy of CBD when combined with a penetrating lotion.

Is it safe?

Studies to date have shown CBD to be safe. That said, it is always recommended that individuals consult with their healthcare professional if they are taking medications, are pregnant or breastfeeding, or have any questions related to whether CBD is safe for the individual.

Will I get high and is it legal?

CBD and THC are the more prevalent molecules in cannabis, however, are distinct in how they interact with your body. THC has intoxicating effects when consumed. CBD has no intoxicating effects, and when a CBD product has less than 0.3% THC, it is considered federally legal.

What should I look for?

When you consider purchasing a CBD product, be sure to look for the Certificate of Analysis (CoA) to see for yourself what’s inside. The CoA should tell you the amount of cannabinoids, including CBD and THC, and also whether there are any harmful contaminants like molds and pesticides.

Tinctures, Topicals, Vapes, or Capsules. Which is right for me?

Once you decide that you’d like to try CBD for yourself, you’re inundated with hundreds of brands and different ways to consume. It shouldn’t be this confusing. What if something as simple as a lotion could transport the CBD molecule safely and efficiently to where it’s needed? No need to swallow a pill and wait for your digestive system and metabolic processes. No need to inhale. And no need to apply another topical which simply leaves the CBD on the skin’s surface to be washed away.

At Viridian, we have put years of research and scientific study into the development of Notion's molecular delivery system that is able to encapsulate the active ingredient (i.e., CBD) and transport it across the body’s natural barrier.
